What is it?

Brazil and Israel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2007 about the Bilateral Cooperation in Research and Industrial Development in the private sector. The program is jointly run by the Secretariat of Innovation in the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil and MATIMOP, the Israeli Industry Center for Research and Development (R&D), on behalf of the Office of the Chief Scientist in the Ministry of Industry Trade and Labor of Israel. On May 2010 both countries launched the first Call for the presentation of the cooperation proposals.

The Third Call, launched on July 2014, invites Brazilian and Israeli companies to develop cooperation proposals in R&D that result in the development of new products, processes or services with industrial application directed to the commercialization in the global and in the domestic markets. The project must demonstrate adequate balance in the participation of the industrial partners from the two countries, with complementarity between the companies and contributions from both sides to the research project.

The process of partners search (“matchmaking”) between both countries will be lead in a continuous way with the support of the Committee, coordinated by MDIC and MATIMOP, with will provide the necessary support for the companies. The governments will promote a meeting agenda with business missions and sector conferences aiming to help Brazilian’s and Israeli’s entrepreneurs to find their potential partners.

The initiative offers funding for joint projects of research and technological development between Brazilian and Israeli companies using the resources of the Office of the Chief Scientist, through the Israeli side, and of the National Bank of Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and of the Financer of Studies and Projects (FINEP) to the Brazilian companies.
